About US and this WEBSITE

We are Angelo and Janneke,

now in our sixties,

and as dedicated traveller-explorers and foodies as ever.

Raised until our teens in northern Italy and southern Netherlands respectively, we met and became a couple as we completed our schooling in South Africa.

Our university days in Cape Town saw us married and touring southern Africa in our converted VW camper van.

We continued our touring and camping in a caravan as we raised our two children based in Cape Town.

Family travel and exploration continued through 15 years of seasonal work as a cruise ship doctor in the southern Indian Ocean, 13 international lecture tours, and 8 years work in medical logistics and emergency services in many countries in all continents.

Now semi-retired in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland, we continue to visit new locations, experience different cultures, and sample new cuisines.

We have always believed in thoroughly researching our destinations and carefully planning our trips to maximise pleasure and success, while leaving room for on-site flexibility and spontaneity.

With some 200 bars producing a staggering 5000 odd pintxos in San Sebastian, the need is evident to come prepared to zero in on the best bars and the most acclaimed pintxos.

To that end we researched dozens of reviews, articles and guides, local and international, in English and in Spanish.

We share the results in this website, offering you several options :

 

You may print the pdf version of routes and enjoy them as they are presented.

It is useful, where language is a problem and the bar is bustling busy, to order by showing the barman the pictures of the desired pintxos.

10-15 prize winning, signature and recommended pintxos are included per route of 5 bars. Sharing these between two people makes for a good night's meal, and leaves room for a few spontaneous spur of the moment extra choices.

To cover all toutes will take about 7-10 days.

 

Alternatively, if you are visiting for only 3-5 days, you may select your own bars and make up your own route. print the pdf for each individual selected bar, and proceed as above.
