There is a huge variety of accomodation available in San Sebastian, ranging from 1-5 star hotels, agrotourism/holiday cottages, hostels, camp sites and apartments.

When deciding where to stay consider that accomodation :

in the old part of town is where the highest concentration of pintxo bars is to be found, but can be noisy as tourists frequent the bars and walk the streets until very late at night

in the new part of town is central to all routes and beaches, and is generally quieter

in the Gros area is still close to everything and can be quieter and cheaper
Remember that the sun will shine mostly in the direction from La Concha beach towards the Gros area.
Accomodation facing in the direction Gros towards la Concha will therefore enjoy glorious morning and afternoon sunshine.
Throughout Spain there are many free parking places for camper vans in and around towns, and on many beaches, including in San Sebastian.
This is certainly a cost conscious option for those looking to tour more widely or stay for longer periods.
